Foreign Language Trips
The Modern Languages department organises a successful yearly trip to either France or Germany. In 2007, 2012 and 2014 we visited Cologne in Germany, in 2008, 2009, 2010 (view photos) and 2011/2013/2015/2016 (view photos) we visited Paris.
In 2017 we will run the trip again. The destination has yet to be confirmed. For more information, contact Madame M Leslie, Principal Teacher of Modern Languages.
S5/S6 Summer Cultural Excursion to Rome
Every year, Newbattle offers S5/6 pupils a chance to go on a cultural excursion to a major European city - in past years they have visited Barcelona and Rome. The pupils plan the trip as a group each year. In past years, we have visited Barcelona (2006) (view photos), Venice (2007) and Rome (2008/2009/2010/2012/2013/2015/2016).
In 2017, we intend to visit Rome again. For more information, contact Mr J Glen (Principal Teacher of Guidance) or Miss Middlehurst (PE).
S3/S4 Battlefields Trip
In June 2015, the History and English departments ran a joint trip for S3/S4 pupils to Belgium to see the historical battlefields from World War I.
In February 2013, Newbattle ran its first ever winter snow sports trip to Andorra. This trip was repeated in February 2014, organised by Mr Thomson and Mrs Malone.
For the first time in 2012, we ran a cultural trip to London for S3/S4/S5 pupils. The trip was successful and was repeated in 2014.
Our football teams travel every year to the DANA Cup in Denmark. This is the second biggest international youth football event in Europe and attracts some 900 teams from over 45 countries. You can read an online article about the benefits that the DANA Cup has brought to Newbattle. For more information, contact Mr Frame (History).
There have also been football trips to other locations including Holland (view photos from 2005) and St James' Park (view photos from 2007). Click the links to see photographs from the trips.
In July 2011 a group of 13 pupils, and one teacher, from Newbattle Community High School embarked on the ultimate school trip. They went on an expedition to Costa Rica in Central America and were joined through an expert expedition leader from the company Outlook Expeditions.
In June 2014, Newbattle Community High School Jazz Band visited New York with Miss Maynes, Mr Knox and Mr McLeod. It is hoped to repeat this in a future year.
On the second-last day of term in June/July we have Discovery Day where all pupils have the opportunity to participate in a visit or event of their choice. Visits in past years have included M&Ds theme park, a zoo visit, Blair Drummond Safari Park (view photos from 2007), a trip to St James' Park, Deep Sea World (view photos from 2012), paintballing, multi-sports in PE, Art workshops and outdoor sports.
Go to the page for the University Week Trip
Every year for the last fifteen years, a group of S2 pupils join with a similar group from Beath High School in Fife for the annual week long residential trip to the University of Edinburgh. Thirty academically high achieving S2 pupils are selected to participate in this taster of university life: living in halls of residence, enjoying a wide variety of specially designed lectures and fun social activities.
