Newbattle 12's Football side finished a very promising season by winning the East-Midlothian Schools Cup in June. On their way to the final Newbattle defeated League Champions Musselburgh, the only side to have taken full points from us this season , by 1-0 in a hard fought match. This set up a final against Scottish cup semi-finalists Lasswade High who were determined to avenge a 5-4 Newbattle win in April which took the title from their grasp.
In the final we produced some of our best football of the season and goals from Darren Stewart and Gary Bennett gave us a two goal lead. Lasswade pulled one back just before the interval to keep the game in the balance. In the second period Newbattle always looked in control and when Bennett put Peter Jack through to score a third the victory was assured.
Jack repaid the compliment for Bennett to score his second of the final and 25th of the season in the final minute and ensure that it was Newbattle captain Steven Dyett who collected the trophy.
The Newbattle players can be proud of their achievements this season, having finished a close third in the League and only lost out in the Scottish Cup to eventual winners Craigmount after a replay.
